It has a temperature of its own, even a clarity that feels beyond question. But as I begin to write, as I choose the first word, that clarity slowly comes apart.
I can only borrow words that already exist. They come from books, from conversations, from sentences whose origins I have long forgotten. I use them to describe myself, yet the shape they leave behind never seems to fit.

What I Couldn't Quite Say

Some things only occur to me after the conversation is over.
The other person has left. The message has been sent. Even the right moment to speak has passed. Then an exact sentence arrives. It fits so well that all my earlier awkwardness seems unnecessary. If only I had said it like that.
I begin rearranging the conversation in my head. This time I do not rush to explain myself or laugh in the wrong place. I make my point clearly. The other person understands, and even gives the answer I had hoped to hear. Everything goes smoothly. Its only flaw is that none of it happened.

No Spectators in Dreams

Suppose there is a dream like this.
I return to a classroom. The desks are in the wrong places. Outside the window is another city. Still, I know this is the room I remember. Someone is waiting for me to hand something in. I cannot remember what it is, only that it is very late. I search my bag. Everything inside has nothing to do with what I need.
Nobody explains the rules. I do not find this strange. I only feel ashamed.

Reading Again, or Reading Wrong

Sometimes, while rereading a book, I come across a line I have underlined.
The sentence is not particularly striking. It may even be ordinary. I look at it for a while, unable to remember why I marked it. There is no note, just a very certain line, as though someone who has since left made the decision for me.
The opposite happens too. A passage stops me. I turn a few pages back and forth before remembering that I have read this book already. I even remember thinking it important. I have no memory of this sentence. “Having read” begins to seem a doubtful claim. I know the cover’s colour, remember a few concepts, can mention the author in conversation. Taken together, these look a good deal like the results of reading.

A Minimal Windows Terminal: CMD + Clink + XDG

Windows Terminal + Scoop + Clink + fzf + fd + zoxide + fastfetch.
A CMD-based setup with XDG-style directories and the Maple Mono font, without PowerShell, WSL, or Starship.
1.
